Spruce Bud Tincture

A seasonal extract of young spruce buds (Picea abies), prepared through hydroethanolic extraction and vacuum concentration — the same approach we use for our medicinal mushroom extracts.

This isn't a classic sugar syrup. The alcohol phase of extraction captures the volatile terpene components of the essential oil (α-pinene, β-pinene, limonene), which are poorly soluble in water and give spruce buds their characteristic fresh, resinous, forest profile. The water phase also captures water-soluble phenolic compounds and antioxidants.

The result is a broader, more representative extract of young spruce buds.

Not a syrup, an extract

Classic sugar maceration poorly extracts terpene compounds. Alcohol is a far better solvent for the resinous and essential-oil components characteristic of spruce buds.

A broader extraction profile

Alcohol-water extraction captures both lipophilic terpenes (α-pinene, β-pinene, limonene) and hydrophilic phenolic compounds and antioxidants — in a single concentrate.

Seasonal batch

Buds are only available in spring (May/June), when they are young and richest in aroma. Every batch is limited and made from freshly harvested raw material.

Process

Why alcohol-water extraction?

Spruce buds contain compounds with very different polarity. Terpenes (α-pinene, β-pinene, limonene) are lipophilic — they transfer poorly into a sugar solution, but dissolve far more readily in ethanol.

With alcohol-water extraction we capture both spectra: alcohol-soluble resinous and essential-oil components, as well as water-soluble phenolic compounds, plant acids and antioxidants. Vacuum concentration then increases the content of extracted substances without heat damage.

Added vitamin C and sunflower lecithin help with formulation stability and the dispersion of lipophilic compounds in the water base.

Usage

How to use it

The concentrate is designed as a versatile base. The simplest way to take it is directly — a few drops sublingually, 2–5 times daily, or diluted in water.

Mixed with honey, you get a homemade spruce bud syrup with a higher content of extracted compounds than a classic sugar preparation. It's also suitable as a concentrated base for spruce-bud drinks and similar beverages.

Shake the bottle well before use — natural cloudiness and sediment are expected.

GoMushroom spruce bud extract is a dietary supplement made from freshly harvested young spruce buds (Picea abies). It is prepared as a concentrated liquid extract.

The process follows the same approach as our medicinal mushroom extracts: hydroethanolic extraction for a broader spectrum of compounds, and vacuum concentration for a higher concentration.

Purified water, spruce bud extract (Picea abies), ethanol or vegetable glycerin, sunflower lecithin, vitamin C (L-ascorbic acid).

The alcohol-based version contains ethanol as part of the final formulation. The alcohol-free version is prepared from the same concentrated extract base, with ethanol and part of the water removed after extraction, then vegetable glycerin added to reach the same final volume.

Because of this, the content of extracted compounds is comparable between both versions.

The concentrate is naturally cloudy. Sediment and slight fraction separation are a normal occurrence in concentrated plant extracts with a higher content of terpene and phenolic compounds. Shake before use.

Do not exceed the recommended daily dose. This dietary supplement is not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle. Keep out of reach of children.
